Weight of the World is a new television programme which explores the training and nutritional principles of people in obscure and far flung areas of the world.
In each episode Nutritionist and trainer Tom Reader travels the globe in order to experience first-hand the gruelling training routines employed by Olympic athletes in their local communities.
FORMAT:
Tom lives with the family of a qualifying athlete for the London 2012 Olympics, where he will spend three weeks eating, training and learning first-hand exactly what it takes to become a great athlete and relate back to UK viewers just how tough it is to keep such a strict and demanding lifestyle.
By immersing himself in the culture and structure of the community he visits Tom will be able to relate his experiences back to the viewer in a fresh and engaging way, and having a qualification in Nutrition as well as a history of working for the UK's biggest supplement companies, and 4 years of working as a model for Londons top modelling agency (Models1), Tom has the right balance of credibility, sincerity, vulnerability and intelligence to connect with both the community he lives with and the English community back home.
With the 2012 Olympics edging ever closer each country to be featured in the series has a link to the London 2012 Olympics. Below is a list of the countries to be featured and their specific sport:
| COUNTRY | ATHLETE | SPECIALITY |
| Bangladesh | ||
| Bulgaria | Wrestling | |
| Chile | ||
| Haiti | Ludovic Augustin | Shooting |
| Malaysia | ||
| Nepal | Rajendra Bahadur Bhandari | Weightlifting |
Of course cultural aspects of each country are also highlighted throughout each episode, for example Haiti's recovery from their earthquake and the effects it had on their Olympic aspirations, as well as an intriguing look into the fact that Bangladesh is the most populated country to have never qualified at the Olympics, only entering via the Wildcard selection..
Episodes also touch on different attitudes towards drugs and performance enhancing strategies, as well as interviews with those who have been caught out. For example we speak with Nepals Rajendra Bhandari who was sanctioned for his use of banned substance Deca Durobolin.
